Six Big 12 Cross Country Teams Ranked in USTFCCCA Preseason Polls

The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its preseason national coaches’ poll and regional rankings this week. Both of the men’s and women’s cross country programs from Iowa State and Oklahoma State landed in the rankings to account for four of the Conference’s six appearances.

No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 10 Iowa State and No. 27 Texas all were ranked in the top-30 of the men’s cross country national poll. The Big 12 had 33% of programs ranked in the men’s poll, tying for the highest percentage out of the autonomy conferences.

The Big 12 had three members ranked in the women’s cross country national poll. The Cowgirls came in at No. 4 followed by West Virginia at No. 24 and the Cyclones at No. 26, with Texas receiving votes.

The Conference has 12 of its 19 programs listed in the regional rankings as seven women’s teams and five men’s teams were included. Four of the women’s teams came from the Midwest Region with No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Iowa State, No. 7 Kansas State and No. 12 Kansas, while No. 3 Texas and No. 12 Baylor are slotted in the South Central Region. West Virginia rounded out the women’s regional rankings with the No. 2 rank in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

For the men’s regional rankings, four of the five came from the Midwest Region with No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 3 Iowa State, No. 12 Kansas and No. 13 Kansas State, while Texas was slotted No. 2 in the South Central Region.

The season begins September 1 as five Big 12 teams will participate in three separate meets.
