Iowa State’s Eleanor Holthaus (Offensive), Texas’ Zoe Fleck (Defensive) and Baylor’s Averi Carlson (Rookie) received Big 12 honors for the third week of the season. The week was highlighted by Carlson helping the Bears set a Big 12 record for team hitting percentage in a match (.677).
Holthaus guided Iowa State to a 3-0 week including a 3-1 victory over Cy-Hawk rival Iowa in front of the third-largest volleyball crowd in the history of Hilton Coliseum (5,015). The senior hit .366 during the week and averaged 4.0 kills per set. The three-time All-Big 12 First Team member (2019-21) moved into sixth place in Cyclone history for career kills (1,248) and seventh in school history with 63 career 10+ kill matches. This is her second career Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award.
Fleck earns her second Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week recognition this season after anchoring the Texas back line and leading the top-ranked Longhorns to a pair of sweeps. The senior had 35 total digs and averaged a league-leading 5.83 digs per set against Denver and UC Davis.
Carlson was named MVP of the Baylor Invitational after having 30 or more assists in all three matches over the weekend for a Big 12-best 11.78 assists per set. The Bears’ .677 hitting percentage against Evansville set the Conference record, shattering the previous mark (.597, Kansas vs. West Virginia, Oct. 3, 2015). This is the Lucas, Texas native’s second Big 12 Rookie of the Week honor.
