BU, TCU & WVU Capture Awards for First Week of Big 12 Play

TCU’s Audrey Nalls (Offensive), West Virginia’s Skye Stokes (Defensive) and Baylor’s Allie Sczech (Rookie) procured weekly honors for the first week of Big 12 play. TCU earned a league win at home, while Stokes set a season-high for the Conference in digs and Baylor started 1-0 in Big 12 play while earning head coach Ryan McGuyre his 500th career victory.

Nalls led TCU in kills and digs in both matches during the week, including a 3-1 win against Iowa State. The senior posted back-to-back double-doubles to start league play, posting 22 kills and 13 digs against then No. 14 Baylor before putting up 16 kills and 11 digs against the Cyclones. Nalls ranked second in the Conference in kills and points per set (4.75 & 5.19) during the week. This is Nalls’ first Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week nod and TCU’s first Big 12 weekly award since March 31, 2021.

Stokes had a Big 12 season-high 31 digs in a five-set match against Texas Tech. The Chester, West Virginia native amassed a league-leading 6.20 digs per set. This is the junior’s first Conference honor and marks the first Mountaineer to capture a weekly accolade this season.

Sczech led the Bears in kills, blocks and points in a 3-1 victory against TCU. Her 12 kills, 23 attempts and six blocks were all personal season-highs. The Sugarland, Texas native’s 1.50 blocks per set were the third-highest in the Big 12 for the week while her .435 hitting percentage was the seventh-highest. Baylor has earned four of the five Rookie of the Week titles this season and has had three different freshmen receive the honor. Sczech and the Bears can be seen on national television this Wednesday, September 28 as No. 13 BU takes on ISU at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
