BU’s Simpson, UT’s Eggleston and TTU’s Correa Secure Big 12 Weekly Honors

Texas’ Logan Eggleston (Offensive), Texas Tech’s Maddie Correa (Defensive) and Baylor’s Riley Simpson (Rookie) captured Big 12 volleyball weekly awards for the second week of the season. The trio led their teams to an 8-1 record during the week.

Eggleston guided Texas to two wins over top-15 opponents, finishing with 38 total kills for an average of 5.43 kills per set, the highest average in the league during the week. The two-time Big 12 Player of the Year had a team-high 22 kills in the 3-1 victory over No. 4 Minnesota and added 16 kills in a road sweep over No. 12 Stanford while totaling a Big 12 leading 6.36 points per set. This is the Brentwood, Tennessee native’s 10th career Big 12 weekly award, the eighth most all-time and ties her for third all-time in Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors (10). Eggleston was also named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Player of the Week.

Correa helped the Red Raiders to a 4-0 week with wins over Tarleton, College of Charleston, Charlotte and Georgia, while pushing Texas Tech to its best start since 2014 (6-0). The sophomore libero has posted double-digit digs in every match of the season. She totaled 66 digs (4.71 per set) during the week while adding 18 assists and five aces to earn her first Conference accolade.

Simpson played in all 11 sets at the Pepperdine Asics Classic, helping the Bears to a 2-1 mark and averaging 3.27 kills per set. The redshirt freshman registered nine blocks while leading Baylor in kills for two of the three matches and totaling 3.77 points per set, the 10th best in the Big 12 during the week.
