West Virginia senior goalkeeper Kayza Massey has been named as United Soccer Coaches Division I Women’s Player of the Week. Massey is the second consecutive Big 12 soccer student-athlete to receive the nod. TCU’s Messiah Bright was named the national player during Week 2.
Massey and the Mountaineers had back-to-back shutouts against then-No. 11 Auburn and then-No. 25 Samford during Week 3 play. In the Mountaineers’ 0-0 draw against Auburn, she had a career-high tying performance of seven saves before recording four saves against Samford in a 1-0 win. The goalkeeper has four clean sheets on the season and three in a row.
The Ottawa, Ontario, native ranks No. 5 nationally in shutouts (4) and No. 37 in the NCAA in save percentage (0.885). She leads the Conference in those two categories, while she also is tied for second in the league in goals against average (0.50).
The honor is the second of her career, after receiving the nod last season.
