OU’s Corley and Texas’ Woldeab Collect Season’s First Tennis Honors

Oklahoma senior Carmen Corley and Texas junior Siem Woldeab were named the first Big 12 Tennis Players of the Week as dual match play began.

Corley played in the Sooners' only match of ranked individuals against Missouri and picked up her first straight-set win (6-2, 6-2) of the season over No. 66 Laura Masic. The Albuquerque, New Mexico native also helped earn a doubles point for the Sooners with her sister Ivana Corley as they grabbed their first win of the season at the top court by defeating Masic and Inah Canete, 6-2.

The senior took the court for her second singles match against Tarleton State’s Martha Makantasi but the match was stopped after the Sooners clinched a 4-0 win over the Texans to give Oklahoma back-to-back shutouts. She was up 6-4, 2-1 in the match.

This is the fifth career Big 12 award for Corley, tying her for the third-most career selections for a Big 12 women’s player.

Ranked No. 13 in singles, Woldeab helped the Longhorns defeat No. 13 Florida, 5-2, to open dual match play. Woldeab, a 2022 doubles All-American with Eliot Spizzirri, began the day by earning a doubles point with new partner Pierre-Yves Bailly as they downed the 43rd-ranked duo of Jonah Braswell and Lukas Greif, 6-1, to be the first team off the court. The junior then picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Greif at No. 4 singles to once again be the first off the court and give the Longhorns a 2-0 lead.

Woldeab garnered a Big 12 weekly award in 2022 and now has earned two in his career.
