Texas’ Eliot Spizzirri and Charlotte Chavatipon earned Big 12 Tennis Player of the Week honors with wins over ranked opponents in both singles and doubles during the second week of the season. This is Spizzirri’s sixth career award while it is Chavatipon’s first.

In UT’s home opener, Spizzirri led the No. 7 ranked Longhorns to a 7-0 sweep over UTSA. Spizzirri and his doubles partner, Cleeve Harper, grabbed a 1-0 lead with a 6-3 win against the No. 6 pair of Alan Magadan and Sebastian Rodriguez to earn the second doubles victory for Texas. Spizziri then clinched the team win when he retired Tiago Torres in the third set when leading 4-6, 6-2, 3-1.
 
The junior capped the week with a win over the No. 1 singles player in the country, Ethan Quinn, to secure a 4-3 victory over No. 12 Georgia. Quinn had bested Spizzirri the previous two times they played before Spizzirri rallied for a 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-1 victory. The Greenwich, Connecticut native also combined with Harper earlier in the match to pick up their second doubles win in as many matches and defeat the No. 19 pair of Quinn and Trent Bryde, 7-6 (4). This brought Spizzirri’s total to three top-20 wins and two top-10 wins on the week and he is now 3-0 in both singles and doubles in dual match play.
 
Chavatipon helped No. 1 ranked Texas collect three-straight dual-match victories over North Texas, SMU and Tulane, which included a 3-0 record in singles and 2-0 record in doubles. She surrendered only 13 games in six sets and included a ranked win over No. 113 Hadley Doyle (SMU) by the score of 6-4, 6-2. Chavatipon defeated Jasmine Adams from North Texas 6-0, 6-3 and Lahari Yelamanchili from Tulane 6-1, 6-3 to wrap up singles play.

In doubles play, she partnered with Sabina Zeynalova to finish with a 2-0 record last week. They defeated the No. 32 ranked pair of Jackie Nylander and Taylor Johnson from SMU, 6-1, before defeating Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell from Tulane by the score of 6-1 as well.
