BU’s Paroulek and ISU’s Naklo Garner Big 12 Weekly Honors

Baylor’s Tadeas Paroulek and Iowa State’s Thasaporn Naklo secured the Big 12 Tennis Players of the Week for the third week of the season. This is Paroulek’s first career award while it is Naklo’s second career award with her first one coming on January 28, 2020.

Paroulek finished the ITA Kickoff Weekend 4-0 as he won the fourth point to clinch both singles matches and help Baylor defeat No. 9 Florida State. The junior picked up wins over Arizona State’s Max McKennon (3-6, 6-1, 6-2) and Florida State’s Loris Pourroy (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) including giving McKennon his first loss of the season.

In doubles, he boasts a perfect record of 5-0 with teammate Zsombor Velcz as they are slated as the No. 59 duo in the country.  The duo defeated Florida’s State’s Maks Silagy and Joshua Dous-Karpenschif 6-4 for their second win of the weekend after securing a win against Arizona State’s Jacob Bullard and Roi Ginat the day before.

Naklo helped Iowa State top a pair of ranked opponents and advance to the ITA National Indoor Championship for the first time in school history. The Bangkok, Thailand native finished the weekend 3-1 including a comeback win against No. 14 Alexa Noel. Naklo defeated Noel (Miami) by a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4  for her fourth singles win against a ranked foe this season.

The senior won both doubles matches with teammate Anna Supapitch Kuearum to help the Cyclones defeat ranked foes in back-to-back matches for the first time in program history. The pair defeated UCLA’a Ava Catanzarite and Fangran Tian 6-2 before a 6-4 win over Miami’s duo of Daevenia Achong and Maya Tahan to end doubles play for the weekend.
