Kansas’ Chandler Gibbens (men’s) and Texas Tech’s Juliet Cherubet (women’s) each collected their second consecutive Big 12 cross country weekly awards. It is the first time since the 2020 season that the men’s and women’s runners of the week have won consecutive awards (Sept. 23 and Oct. 7).
Gibbens placed fourth at the Pre-Nationals Invite in Charlottsville, Va. in a field of 184 finishers. The double major (accounting and political science) clocked a time of 23:09.60, one second short of his personal-best which he set two weeks ago at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. The senior is the second in KU program history to earn three career Conference awards joining Benson Chesang (Sept. 9, 2003; Sept. 28, 2004; Sept. 27, 2005).
Cherubet won her second-consecutive race with a personal-best time of 19:20.70. The freshman crossed the finish line with a 13.8 second margin of victory and trimmed off just under 56 seconds off her winning time of 20:16.40 at the Gans Creek Classic two weeks ago. The pre-nursing major joined Sally Kipyego (Oct. 4 and Oct. 18) as the only Red Raiders in program history to win consecutive Conference awards.
