AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas has clinched its league-record seventh consecutive Big 12 volleyball title and earned the Conference’s automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Volleyball Championship. The Longhorns are 15-1 in Big 12 play with two matches remaining. The title is the 16
th for the defending national champions, which includes winning or sharing 12 of the last 13 and 15 of the previous 17.
Texas is the fifth-ranked team in the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s (AVCA) Division I Coaches Poll and is ranked sixth in the RPI. UT was revealed as the No. 7 team in the NCAA DI Women’s Volleyball Committee Top 10 rankings for results through Oct. 28. The Longhorns have beaten 10 Top 25 teams this season, including eight in league play and are 45-12 in sets during Big 12 matches.
UT has been powered by Madisen Skinner who entered the week leading the Big 12 in kills per set (4.52) and Asjia O’Neal who leads the Conference in blocks per set (1.52). As a team, Texas entered the week ranking fourth nationally with 2.93 blocks per set.
The Big 12 currently has five teams in the AVCA Top 25, tied for the most of any league. The Conference ranks third in RPI and is one of two leagues with at least nine teams inside the top 65.
With the addition of BYU, UCF, Cincinnati and Houston, this season’s league schedule included each team playing 18 matches over 10 weeks with six series matches and six single matches.
