Oklahoma State’s Ayumi Miyamoto (women’s) and Texas’ Eliot Spizzirri (men’s) nabbed the Big 12 Tennis Players of the Week awards as they led their teams to wins over ranked opponents.

Miyamoto completed the week with a perfect record of 7-0 including three singles wins. The native of Chiba, Japan led the Cowgirls to wins over Louisiana Tech, Wichita State and No. 41 South Carolina as she picked up a singles and doubles win in each contest, while adding an additional doubles win against Oral Roberts.

The senior is now 6-2 on the season as she defeated all three opponents in straight sets to bring her total to 35 career singles victories. Miyamoto also moved to 7-2 on the season in doubles play as she helped OSU sweep all four opponents. She now sports a 46-13 career doubles record, second-best in program history during the Big 12 era for career doubles win percentage (.780).

It is her first career Big 12 weekly award.

Texas’ Eliot Spizzirri picked up his third Big 12 weekly award of the season to tie former Texas player Yuya Ito for the most career selections (8). The junior led Texas to a 5-2 win over No. 40 Texas A&M with both a singles and doubles victory. Spizzirri defeated No. 63 Noah Schacter in straight sets in his lone singles match of the week to improve to 22-3 overall and 9-0 in duals this season.

The native of Greenwich, Connecticut also added a 6-2 doubles win with teammate Cleeve Harper over Texas A&M’s duo of Trey Hilderbrand and Noah Schacter to improve to 8-5 in dual matches, all at No. 1.
