ISU’s Kajuru and Texas Tech’s Wallin Earn Weekly Tennis Honors

Iowa State’s Ange Oby Kajuru (women’s) and Texas Tech’s Olle Wallin (men’s) took home the Big 12 Tennis Players of the Week for the ninth week of the season.

Kajuru earned her third career Big 12 honor after finishing the Cyclones’ first week of conference play a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles. The sophomore led the Cyclones to wins over No. 13 Kansas and Kansas State as she won both singles matches in straight sets, including a double bagel against KU’s Maria Titova. Kajuru improved to 12-1 on the season in dual singles and 6-1 in dual doubles with teammate Xinyi Nong after a pair of 6-1 decisions.

Wallin picked up three individual ranked wins as Texas Tech defeated No. 67 Michigan State, No. 31 Arizona State and No. 24 Memphis. Wallin tallied his first two wins in straight sets over Michigan State’s No. 29 Ozan Baris (7-6 (2), 6-3) and the 2022 PAC 12 Freshman of the Year, Arizona State’s No. 57 Murphy Cassone (6-2, 6-1). The Halmstad, Sweden native then wrapped up his weekend with a victory over Memphis’ No. 48 ranked Pablo Alemany (4-6, 6-1, 6-3). Wallin dropped only one set in three matches and is on a five-match winning streak, with all five coming against ranked opponents.
