OU’s Sleeth and UT’s Spizzirri Garner Big 12 Weekly Tennis Honors

Oklahoma’s Layne Sleeth (women’s) and Texas’ Eliot Spizzirri (men’s) earned Big 12 tennis honors for the 13th week of the season.

Sleeth led the Sooners to a win in their home season finale over No. 19 Oklahoma State. She opened the Bedlam matchup by clinching the doubles point on court two with teammate Alexandra Pisareva by a score of 6-4 over OSU’s duo of Sofia Rojas and Lucia Peyre. Sleeth then rounded out her day by defeating No. 102 Alana Wolfberg in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) on the top court. It is the senior’s first Big 12 award of the season and second of her career.

Spizzirri tallied a combined 3-0 record on the top line in singles and doubles as he led Texas to two ranked road wins (No. 37 Texas Tech and No. 41 Baylor). All three of his wins came against competition ranked inside the top-80, including one doubles win ranked inside the top-20. The native from Greenwich, Connecticut started his week with a 6-1 victory alongside Cleeve Harper over Texas Tech’s No. 80 pair of Dimitrios Azoidis and Reed Collier. He finished the day with his lone singles win of the week in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) over the Red Raiders No. 58 Olle Wallin.

Spizzirri earned his final and highest-ranked win of the week with a 7-5 victory alongside Harper to clinch the doubles point against Baylor’s No. 20 duo of Finn Bass and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi. The win marked the duo’s sixth straight victory and sixth top-20 win of the season. It is Spizzirri's fifth award this season, tying the Conference record that he set in 2021 for a single season and extends the Conference’s career record for most selections to 10.
