West Virginia’s Tevin Tucker (player), Oklahoma’s Carter Campbell (pitcher) and Oklahoma State’s Tyler Wulfert (newcomer) were voted for Big 12 baseball weekly honors by a five-person media panel. It is the first Big 12 weekly honor for all three players.
Tucker hit .571 with seven runs scored, tallying three multi-hit games in the Mountaineers’ 4-0 week that vaulted the team into first place in the Big 12 standings. The graduate student from Prince George, Virginia went 3-for-4 at PNC Park against Pitt, notching two steals in the midweek game. He reached base four times in the Saturday contest against TCU, going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Tucker hit the game-clinching single in Sunday’s 17-7 run-rule victory, finishing a 2-for-4 day with a pair of RBIs. He played error-free shortstop and scored a run in all four games.
Campbell threw 8.2 relief innings over three games, allowing five hits, one earned run, picking up a win and a save. He threw the final 3.0 innings in Friday’s win over then-No. 14 Texas, allowing just a pair of singles to pick up his fifth win of the season. A day later, he pitched the final 3.1 innings of OU’s 9-6 win over Texas, allowing a single hit and striking out three to pick up the first save of his Oklahoma career. The lefty from Keller, Texas also threw 2.1 innings in a non-conference game against Oklahoma State midweek, allowing two hits and an earned run.
Wulfert had four multi-hit games, hitting .600 as the Cowboys posted a 4-0 week. He added seven runs scored, six RBIs, three doubles, a triple and a home run. The third baseman from Farmington, New Mexico went 3-for-4 in Saturday’s game against Kansas and homered in the midweek, non-conference win against Oklahoma. For the week, the Midland Junior College transfer had a .619 on-base percentage, a 1.133 slugging percentage and did not commit an error.
