BYU became the fifth Division I school to win both the men’s and women’s championship races in the same year since the NCAA started hosting both championships in 1981 and the first school since Colorado did it in 2004. The only other programs to accomplish the feat are Stanford (1996, 2003) and Wisconsin (1985). West Virginia finished runner-up in the women’s 6k for its highest placement at the national meet in program history while the Iowa State’s men’s team finished runner-up for the second time in four years. It is the first time since 2008 that a Conference finished with the national champion and runner-up in the women’s championship and 2014 in the men’s championship.
The Cougars started the day with 147 points in the women’s 6k led by senior Lexy Halladay-Lowry who finished in 14
th place. She was joined by Riley Chamberlain (31
st), Carmen Alder (39th), Taylor Rohatinsky (43
rd), Carlee Hansen (65
th), Nelah Roberts (83
rd) and Taylor Lovell (88
th) to help BYU to its sixth women’s title in program history and first since 2020.
West Virginia finished runner-up with a score of 164 points led by reigning Big 12 champion Ceili McCabe who placed sixth. Joy Naukot (17

th), Emily Bryce (69
th), Madison Trippett (89
th) and Alexis Lamb (226
th) rounded out the finishes for the Mountaineers.
BYU’s men’s team completed the sweep as Casey Clinger crossed the finish line first with a sixth-place result. Creed Thompson (12

The Conference garnered 11 NCAA All-Americans on the men’s side with BYU and Iowa State both tallying four followed by Oklahoma State with two and Colorado with one All-American selection. On the women’s side, the Big 12 received eight selections with three Cougars, three Mountaineers, one Red Raider and one Sun Devil.
