UT’s Scheffler Wins Second Masters, TTU’s Åberg Runner-Up

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Former University of Texas golfer Scottie Scheffler claimed his second Masters Tournament in three seasons with a final round score of 4-under-par 68 while the 2023 Big 12 Golfer of the Year, Ludvig Åberg earned runner-up.

Scheffler (Texas, 2014-18) is the sixth Longhorn to win a Major championship while being the 18th golfer in history to claim the Green Jacket more than once. Claiming his first Masters Tournament title in 2022, he joins historic golfers Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Seve Ballesteros as the youngest multiple-time winners.

He had a one-stroke lead entering the final day where he knocked in three straight birdies on holes 8, 9 and 10 to lead by two strokes before birdies on holes 13, 14 and 16 secured his win.

Åberg, in his first Masters and major championship debut, finished second with a total score of 281 (-7). The former Red Raider entered the tournament ranked No. 9 in the world and held on close to Scheffler on the leaderboard for most of the final round.

Before his first season as a pro, he was awarded the 2023 Fred Haskins, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus Players of the Year awards.
