Fourth-seeded TCU defeated second-seeded Texas 4-3 to take home the first NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis title in program history. It was the fourth meeting this season between the teams as they split the regular season before Texas defeated TCU in the Big 12 Championship title match. The national title win was the eighth meeting in a championship dual meet between the two programs with the Horned Frogs taking both the NCAA Indoor Championship and Big 12 Championship in 2023.
TCU struck first and tallied the doubles point after wins on the top two doubles courts. Jack Pinnington and Sebastian Gorzny earned a 6-3 result on the second court before Jake Fearnley and Pedro Vives ended the doubles portion with a 6-4 score.
Lui Maxted extended the Horned Frogs lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory on the fourth court before Texas rattled off three consecutive victories to take a 3-2 lead.
Gilles-Arnaud Bailly put the Longhorns on the board first with a 6-2, 6-1 showing on the No. 3 court followed by Cleeve Harper on the No. 6 court (6-3, 6-2). Micah Braswell gave UT the lead with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 performance on the No. 2 court.
TCU’s Jack Pinnington evened the score again with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 match on the No. 1 court to turn all eyes to the fifth court. Sebastian Gorzny ended the match with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 victory to win the national title for the Horned Frogs.
