ARLINGTON, Texas – Top-seeded Oklahoma (35-18) left No. 9 seed TCU (32-20) scoreless Wednesday afternoon in the 2024 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship with a 4-0 Sooner win.
OU's Braden Davis (W, 9-3) tossed the first complete game shutout in nine years at the Championship and the seventh all-time. Davis also ties the Globe Life Field record for the longest outing in an NCAA game.
The game remained scoreless until the fourth inning when OU's Jackson Nicklaus doubled to center field, driving in Michael Snyder and giving the Sooners a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Kendall Pettis singled up the middle, allowing Nicklaus to score, extending OU's lead to 2-0.
In the sixth inning, OU's Anthony Mackenzie and Nicklaus both hit solo home runs, increasing the lead to 4-0.
TCU’s starting pitcher Payton Tolle (L, 7-4), took the loss after throwing 5.1 innings while allowing six hits and four runs with nine strikeouts.
TCU will play No. 6 seed Kansas State on Thursday, May 23 at 9 a.m. CT in an elimination game while Oklahoma will face No. 7 seed Kansas on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. CT. Both games will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
