Cincinnati’s 2023-24 Big 12 Athlete of the Year Nominees

The 2023-24 Big 12 Athlete of the Year nominees will be featured in alphabetical order by school starting Monday, June 17 through Tuesday, June 25 at 10 a.m. CT and 2 p.m. CT.
 
Each institution nominated one male and one female athlete of any classification that competed for their institution during the 2023-24 school year. Student-athletes were required to be in good academic standing and had to be from a league-sponsored sport.
 
The 14 schools that competed during the 2023-24 academic year are eligible.
 
The winners will be announced Wednesday, June 26. Stay tuned to Big12Sports.com and the league’s social media platforms to see the rest of the candidates.
 
This afternoon’s featured candidates are Cincinnati’s Ty Gingerich and Juliette Laracuente-Huebner. 
 
Cincinnati Male Athlete of the Year Candidate
Ty Gingerich, Golf
Sr., Russiaville, Indiana
Accomplishments
  • Captured UC’s first Big 12 title, with 9-under 279 at the Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship.
  • Was an All-Big 12 performer in 2023-24.
  • Earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Purdue Regional and finished his career with the third-lowest stroke average in Bearcat history (72.50).
  • A UC Legion of Excellence honoree.
Cincinnati Female Athlete of the Year Candidate
Juliette Laracuente-Huebner, Track & Field
Fr., Marengo, Ohio
Accomplishments
  • A Second Team All-American in the Indoor Pentathlon and Outdoor Heptathlon.
  • The only freshman or sophomore to qualify for the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship and the only freshman to qualify for the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
  • Earned All-Big 12 honors for both Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field.
  • She was the only Bearcat to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship and was UC’s highest finisher in any event at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship (14th).
