BYU was chosen as the projected champion of the 2024 Big 12 soccer season, as voted by the Conference’s head coaches. The Cougars are the first team selected atop the preseason poll in consecutive years since West Virginia’s seven-year streak from 2013-2019.
The 2024 season marks the first for the Big 12 as a 16-team league with the debut of Arizona, Arizona State and Utah and the return of Colorado.
For a second straight season, one point separated the top two teams. BYU received nine first-place votes and 206 points while 2023 regular season champions Texas Tech claimed six first-place votes for 205 points. TCU ranked third with 197 points and earned one first-place vote.
New members Colorado and Arizona State rounded out the poll’s top five with 174 and 157 points, respectively.
Last season, BYU advanced to the NCAA Women’s College Cup for the second time in three seasons while the Red Raiders made it to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Arizona State and Colorado also received bids for the postseason.
The season kicks off Aug. 15 with all 16 teams in action with Big 12 play beginning Sept. 12.
