BYU’s Jenna Hutchins (women’s) and TTU’s Ernest Cheruiyot (men’s) collected Big 12 Runner of the Week honors for the third week of the season.
Hutchins won the Autumn Classic for the second straight year in her first race of the season. The sophomore from Johnson City, Tennessee was the first of eight Cougars to cross the finish line in the top 10 with her time of 15:17.88. She is the first Cougar from the women’s team to earn a Conference weekly award.
Cheruiyot led the Red Raiders to the team title at the Texas Tech Open as he earned the individual 8k title with a time of 23:17.30. It is his first individual title of the season after finishing runner-up at the Lori Fitzgerald Memorial Open. The sophomore led a pack of five Red Raiders in the top 15 and finished nearly 50 seconds ahead of the runner-up. It is his first career Conference weekly award and the first for Texas Tech’s men’s team since Miguel Bautista earned the recognition on October 18, 2016.
