Six Big 12 gymnastics programs earned rankings in the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) preseason poll, announced by the organization on Tuesday. The six teams match the league’s most teams ranked, since expanding to seven teams last year.
Utah led the league at No. 5, followed by No. 16 Denver, No. 18 Arizona, No. 25 Arizona State, No. 30 BYU and No. 35 West Virginia. Iowa State received votes.
The Red Rocks collected 1,751 points and a first-place vote to rank fifth in the poll after finishing the season fourth in the NQS (national qualifying score) with a 197.825 and an appearance in the national championship. The ranking marks the team’s ninth straight appearance in the top five.
Denver, the No.16-ranked team, earned 1,132 points. The Pioneers have placed within the poll’s top-15 for 11 consecutive years, including making an appearance every year since joining the Big 12 as an affiliate member in 2016.
The Wildcats enter the season within the top 20, jumping up 12 spots from No. 30 in last season’s preseason poll. Arizona earned a second-place finish at the 2025 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship, the program’s highest finish at a conference championship since 2005. Head Coach John Court was named the league’s coach of the year ahead of the GymCats’ seventh straight NCAA Championship regional appearance.
ASU rounded out the league in the top 25 after the 2025 campaign ended with the Gym Devils securing their eighth season in a row with an NQS of 196.00 or better (196.310). The program reached its seventh consecutive postseason appearance a season ago and enters this season with four selections to the 2026 Big 12 gymnastics preseason team.
The No. 30-ranked Cougars concluded last season with an NQS of 196.025 and an NCAA Regional appearance. All-arounder Brynlee Andersen-Broekman represented BYU at the national meet, qualifying as an individual performer for the balance beam.
WVU enters the season at No. 33 after receiving votes in last season’s preseason poll. The Mountaineers ended the season at No. 33 in the final NQS rankings with a 195.855. The 2025 campaign marked the program’s ninth NCAA Championship appearance in the last 10 seasons, while it was the team’s 44
th overall regional berth.

Utah and Iowa State kick off the season for Big 12 teams Jan. 2 and Jan. 4, respectively, while the season opener for other Big 12 gymnastics teams is scheduled for Jan. 9 and Jan. 11.
