For the second consecutive season, seven Big 12 teams earned bids to the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship. It marks the first time the league has sent seven teams in consecutive seasons since 2010-13.
The seven teams are tied for the second-most in league history and it's the fourth year in a row that least six Conference teams have made March Madness.
TCU (31-3, 16-2) will host first and second rounds as a No. 2 seed in the Birmingham 3 Region taking on 15th-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson. TCU is in the field for the first time since the 2010 season and 10th overall time after sweeping the Big 12 regular season and postseason titles. The Horned Frogs set program records for total wins, Big 12 wins and home wins while having an 8-2 record against Top 25 teams this season.
Baylor (27-7, 15-3) earned the league’s other top 16 seed and will host in Waco after advancing to the Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship final and finishing second in the league standings. The three-time national champions are making their 21st consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, the third-longest active streak nationally, and 23rd overall. BU will face Grand Canyon in the First Round in the Spokane 1 Region.
K-State (26-7, 13-5) collected its 19th NCAA bid and will head to Lexington, Kentucky as a No. 5 seed playing against 12th-seeded Fairfield in the Spokane 4 Region.
West Virginia (24-7, 13-5) procured a No. 6 seed in the Birmingham 2 Region, making the Mountaineers’ 16th March Madness appearance. WVU heads to Chapel Hill and will take on the winner of the play-in game between 11th-seeded Columbia and Washington.
Oklahoma State (25-6, 14-4) earned a No. 7 seed in the Spokane 4 Region for its 18th tournament bid. The Cowgirls will play 10th-seeded South Dakota State in Storrs, Connecticut.
Utah (22-8, 13-5) garnered a No. 8 seed in the Utes’ debut Big 12 season. It is the 21st NCAA appearance for Utah and fourth in a row. The Utes will head to Columbia, South Carolina and face ninth-seeded Indiana in the Birmingham 2 Region.
Iowa State (22-11, 12-6) is an 11-seed set for a First Four matchup against Princeton in South Bend, Indiana in the Birmingham 3 Region. This is ISU’s sixth consecutive NCAA bid and 23rd overall.
The Conference has had at least five selections for the 24th time in 28 tournaments. In total, the Conference has 167 appearances in the Championship since the league’s inception in 1996-97.
The Big 12 entered the week as one of two leagues with at least five teams in the top 20 of the poll and was one of two conferences to have at least four teams inside the top 16 of the NET rankings.
For the 22nd consecutive year, an ESPN channel will broadcast all 67 games of the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship. This marks the 30th straight year (since 1996) ESPN is the Championship’s exclusive television home. All games will be available online via the ESPN App.
First Four games will be played Wednesday, March 19, and Thursday, March 20, at four of the top-16 host sites. First- and second-round games will be played Friday, March 21, through Monday, March 24, on the campuses of the top-16 seeds.
In 2025 the Championship will again be utilizing a two-site regional format, with eight competing teams playing at Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama, and eight teams playing at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, Washington. Regional play in Birmingham and Spokane will take place March 28-31, with each site hosting two regional semifinal games March 28 and two March 29. In addition, each site will host a regional championship game March 30 and one March 31.
