Arizona State’s Bor Artnak (men’s) and Lily Taylor (women’s) swept the Big 12 Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week for the Sun Devils.
Artnak recorded three ranked wins, including two at the No. 1 singles court. The sophomore helped ASU defeat No. 14 Baylor and No. 26 Princeton including the doubles-clinching point against the Bears. The doubles point came on the top court against the 15
th-ranked pair in the country in a 7-6(5) performance in his first match with teammate Daniel Phillips. He followed it up with a 6-3, 6-3 straight sets victory over No. 40 Devin Badenhorst (Baylor) on the top singles court. The Trbovlje, Slovenia native added one more ranked singles win against Princeton’s Paul Inchauspe (No. 33) to a score of 7-6(5), 7-6(4).
Taylor finished her week with a perfect 4-0 record including two wins at the No. 1 doubles position. The freshman helped the Sun Devils move to 5-1 in Big 12 play as she clinched the match against Cincinnati with her singles victory (6-4, 6-3) and secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win against West Virginia. Taylor added a 6-1, 6-0 performance against West Virginia to extend her singles win streak to four in a row. Her second doubles victory came against Cincinnati with teammate Patricija Spaka for the pairs 10
th win in 11 matches.
