Baylor’s Oskar Brostrom Poulsen (men’s) and Oklahoma State’s Rose Marie Nijkamp (women’s) earned Big 12 Tennis Players of the Week for matches ending March 30.
Brostrom Poulsen picked up two singles wins at the No. 2 court and a ranked win on the top doubles court to finish the week 3-1. The senior helped the Bears take down two ranked Conference opponents with 4-2 victories over No. 50 Utah and No. 57 BYU. He won both singles matches in straight sets to improve to 11-6 this spring while adding a win over Utah’s Reid Jarvis and Dante Teramo, the No. 52 pair in the country. It is his second award this season.
Nijkamp clinched the Cowgirls’ match over TCU with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory on the No. 4 singles court and added two top-25 ranked doubles wins. Oklahoma State finished the week with wins over No. 22 Baylor (4-0) and No. 37 TCU (4-2) as Nijkamp concluded with a combined 3-0 record. In doubles, she teamed up with Anastasiya Komar to add wins over the 18
th and 24
th-ranked pairs in the country to improve their record to 15-2 on the year at the No. 1 position. The duo has racked up five ranked doubles wins this season and are ranked as the No. 6 pair in the latest ITA Women’s Tennis Doubles rankings. She is the second Cowgirl this season to earn the weekly Conference accolade.
