Baylor’s Cristina Tiglea (women’s) and TCU’s Duncan Chan (men’s) were named Big 12 Tennis Players of the Week for matches ending April 6.
Tiglea finished the week 3-0 against No. 31 Arizona and No. 38 Arizona State. The senior from Milan, Italy contributed with wins in both matches with victories at the top doubles court. The doubles point against the Wildcats helped BU secure a 4-0 sweep. In singles play, Tiglea earned a win over No. 42 Emilija Tverijonaite (Arizona State) in a three-set, 3-3 tie scenario in a dual match that lasted over four hours. The 6-7(6), 7-6(3), 6-4 win clinched the match for Baylor 4-3 to give the Sun Devils their first home loss this season.
Chan added four wins this week as he helped the Horned Frog men clinch a share of their sixth Big 12 regular season championship in program history. The sophomore clinched the doubles point with teammate Albert Pedrico in wins over No. 67 Texas Tech and No. 74 Oklahoma State on the No. 2 doubles court. Chan followed that up with straight-set victories on the No. 6 singles court to improve his singles record to 19-7 this season. Chan and Pedrico have won five of their last six doubles matches dating back to March 3 and sit at 10-4 in duals this season.
