Cincinnati’s Jack Natili (player and newcomer) and Kansas’ Cooper Moore (pitcher) were named the Big 12 baseball’s weekly awards recipients for games ending May 11.
Natili finished the week 10-for-18 (.556) in the Bearcats’ four games to rack up nine RBI. The sophomore catcher homered twice in the weekend series against the Horned Frogs and totaled five runs over the week. He started the week with back-to-back four-hit performances, including a perfect 4-4 showing in a 10-2 win over Oral Roberts. He followed that up by going 4-for-5 in the series opener against TCU, where he recorded three runs, one double, one home run and four RBI. He is the third Bearcat to earn Conference recognition this season and the first to be named the Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Week.
Moore set a career high with 10 strikeouts in Kansas’ Friday night win over BYU. The sophomore right-handed pitcher matched his career-high by going 8.0 innings, his sixth time throwing at least 7.0 innings in his last nine starts. Moore retired the first eight batters he faced before finishing with four strikeouts in the final two innings. His six wins are tied for the most on the team and have helped the Jayhawks tally the most regular season wins in program history. He is the second Jayhawk to earn the recognition this season, joining teammate Dominic Voegele.
