PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Big 12 had 16 players selected on the first day of the 2026 MLB Draft, including two first-round picks. Texas Tech’s Logan Hughes was selected with the 17
th pick by the Houston Astros, while Arizona State’s Cole Carlon was selected with the 39
th pick by the Toronto Blue Jays. Five Big 12 programs produced multiple Day One picks, led by TCU with three, while Cincinnati, Kansas, Texas Tech and West Virginia all had two.
Hughes became the first Big 12 player of the day selected when the Houston Astros chose the Texas Tech outfielder with the 17th overall pick. An All-Big 12 First Team selection, Hughes became the fourth first-round pick in Red Raider history.
Carlon went 39th overall to Toronto after an outstanding junior season at Arizona State. The left-hander earned First Team All-Big 12 honors after throwing the second-most strikeouts (133) in the Conference in 2026.
Brunson was the first of three Horned Frogs selected on Saturday, when Washington opened the second round by selecting the outfielder with the 42nd overall pick. He was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection this season after leading the team with 51 RBIs and 13 stolen bases.
Kansas shortstop Tyson LeBlanc was chosen by Detroit with the 61st overall selection and became the highest drafted position player in school history. LeBlanc earned First Team All-Big 12 honors after helping guide the Jayhawks to a historic season that included the program's first Big 12 regular-season championship and tournament title.
TCU's Sawyer Strosnider was selected 66th overall by Milwaukee after leading the Horned Frogs with 13 home runs in 2026. The 2025 Big 12 Freshman of the Year posted the first quadruple-double in the NCAA since Utah Valley’s Chris Benson (2010), with 13 doubles, 10 triples (a school record), 11 home runs and 10 stolen bases in 2025.
UCF outfielder Andrew Williamson heard his name called with the 68th overall pick by St. Louis. Williamson was a Second Team All-Big 12 selection in his junior season and became just the second Black and Gold player selected in the second round and the program’s highest pick since 2004.
The Cardinals used the 72nd overall pick on West Virginia’s right-handed pitcher Dawson Montesa. In his lone season in Morgantown, Montesa struck out 92 batters in 77.0 innings and held opponents to a .228 batting average.
Colorado selected Cincinnati catcher Jack Natili at No. 76 overall, making him the third-highest pick in program history. Natili earned Second Team All-Big 12 honors after tying the school’s single-game home run record (3) on three separate occasions this season.
Kansas’ right-hander Dominic Voegele went to Baltimore with the 82nd overall pick. Voegele was a Second Team All-Big 12 selection and broke the Jayhawks’ single-season strikeout record with 120 punchouts in 2026.
The Cardinals took Texas Tech’s Caden Ferraro at No. 86 overall, giving the Red Raiders their second selection of the day. Ferraro earned Second Team All-Big 12 honors in his lone season in Lubbock.
West Virginia left-hander Maxx Yehl was selected with the 91st overall pick when Kansas City chose the 2026 Big 12 Pitcher of the Year. Yehl was a unanimous First Team All-Big 12 and All-American after tallying a 9-3 record with a 2.13 ERA.
Houston outfielder Tre Broussard was selected by Cleveland with the 95th overall pick. Broussard became Houston’s earliest draft pick since 2021 and led the team with a .344 batting average in 2026.
Seattle selected Cincinnati right-hander Nathan Taylor with the 101st overall pick, becoming the second Bearcat drafted. Taylor, the first Cincinnati pitcher drafted since 2021, was the first Bearcat pitcher to be named an All-American since 1974.
The fourth round opened with Minnesota choosing TCU right-handed pitcher Tommy LaPour at No. 107 overall. LaPour posted a 3.09 ERA, while punching out 88 batters in 16 starts this season.
Kansas State shortstop Dee Kennedy was selected by St. Louis with the 114th overall pick. Kennedy earned First Team All-Big 12 honors after ranking in the top five of the Big 12 in runs and RBIs. He was also one of eight Big 12 players to hit 20 or more home runs in 2026.
Oklahoma State's Alex Conover closed out the day for the Conference when San Diego drafted the outfielder with the 134th overall selection in Competitive Balance Round C. Conover was a First Team All-Big 12 performer for the Cowboys in 2026 and ranked inside the top 10 of the Conference in hits for the season.
