Both Arizona State and Oklahoma State advanced to the match play portion of the NCAA Men’s Golf Division I Championship, as they are two of the eight remaining squads at the Omni La Costa Resort.
Arizona State captured the top spot in match play after navigating 72 holes at the 7,480-yard layout at 14 under par. The Sun Devils had three of the top 10 finishers individually, led by Josele Ballester’s 6-under 282 to tie for fourth. ASU takes on Ole Miss in the NCAA quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Oklahoma State will face Oklahoma after posting a -1 score over four rounds, highlighted by a -6 in Monday’s final round to capture the No. 4 seed in match play. Big 12 individual champion Preston Stout continued his good form in the postseason, finishing third at -7, just four strokes off an individual NCAA title.
In addition, three Big 12 players captured a tour card for a professional golf circuit through PGA TOUR U with the completion of the stroke play portion of the season. Arizona State’s Ballester and Preston Summerhays earned their cards for the Korn Ferry Tour, while Texas Tech’s Callum Scott earned status on PGA TOUR Americas.
