WVU’s Kelly and Montesa, OSU’s Lund and K-State’s Gallagher Procure Big 12 Baseball Weekly Awards

West Virginia’s Gavin Kelly (player) and Dawson Montesa (co-newcomer), Oklahoma State’s Ethan Lund (pitcher) and Kansas State’s Grant Gallagher (co-newcomer) procured the Big 12 baseball weekly awards for the third week of the season.

Kelly powered the Mountaineers during a 3–1 week, hitting .579 (11-for-19) with two home runs, three doubles, six RBI and seven runs scored while posting a 1.053 slugging percentage. The sophomore catcher recorded multiple hits in all four games, including three-hit performances in each contest of West Virginia’s series at Kennesaw State. Kelly capped the weekend with his first career multi-home run game. He also added four walks to bring his on-base percentage to .652 and OPS to 1.705 on the week.

Lund was dominant in a series-clinching win over Sam Houston, tossing six shutout innings while striking out a career-high 14 batters. The sophomore lefty allowed just three hits and did not issue a walk, retiring nine consecutive batters after surrendering a leadoff single to begin the game. His 14 strikeouts were the most by a Cowboy since 2024 and came just two shy of the program record. The performance lowered his team-leading ERA to 1.23 and raised his season strikeout total to 28, which leads the Big 12 and ranks sixth nationally.

Gallagher anchored the Wildcats’ offense during the week with a team-best average of .444 (8-for-18) with five RBI, four runs, two doubles, one home run and a 1.267 OPS. The senior infielder drove the first pitch of an eighth-inning at-bat off the wall to bring in the game-winning run to even the series against Columbia. He also hit his second homer of the season on the road at Louisiana with a game-tying, two-run shot and tallied four walks on the week.

Montesa made his third start of the season at Kennesaw State, fanning 11 batters over 7.0 innings to earn the win. The junior right-hander allowed just one run on four hits and one walk. The 11 punchouts brought his season total to 26, ranking as the second-most in the Big 12 and No. 14 nationally.
