Big 12 Women’s Golf Awards Unveiled

Arizona State’s Patience Rhodes was named Big 12 Golfer of the Year to headline the 2026 Big 12 women’s golf awards. The Sun Devils’ Fai Rubrong was the Big 12 Freshman of the Year, while BYU’s Whitney Banz and Oklahoma State’s Marta Silchenko were Co-Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Iowa State’s Christie Martens was tabbed Coach of the Year by her peers after leading the Cyclones to their first Big 12 Championship.

Rhodes averaged 70.7 strokes per round and finished 13th-or-better in all five of her collegiate tournament starts this season, highlighted by a fourth-place finish at the Big 12 Championship. The Bath, England native ranks 16th in the Clippd rankings, which were used to determine the award, and 17th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. She additionally competed in the World Team Amateur Championship, helping England tie for fourth, and the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, making the cut to play the final round at Augusta National Golf Club. She is the first Arizona State golfer to earn Big 12 Women’s Golfer of the Year in the Sun Devils’ two years in the Conference.

The Sun Devils’ Fai Rubrong was the league’s Freshman of the Year as the top-ranked freshman in the Clippd rankings, closing the year with three top-12 finishes. The Thai golfer played her last nine rounds of the year at -8, including a second-place finish at the PING/ASU Invitational and an appearance on the Big 12 All-Tournament Team with a T-12th finish at Dallas Athletic Club. She is the first Sun Devil to win Big 12 Women’s Golf Freshman of the Year.

Banz and Silchenko shared Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors after a vote from the league’s head coaches, who could not vote for their own player. Banz holds a 3.96 GPA while pursuing a degree in exercise and wellness, posting a pair of top-20 finishes in 11 events this season. Silchenko holds a 3.78 GPA in international business, while posting seven top-10 finishes on the course, including in each of her last five events.

Martens was unanimously named Big 12 Coach of the Year for the second time, after leading the Cyclones to the program’s first Big 12 team title. ISU won four team titles over the course of the season, clinching the program’s 16th consecutive regional berth, all under Martens, which is the third-longest streak among active Big 12 members. The Cyclones posted the best round of the tournament, a 7-under 281, in the final day at Dallas Athletic Club to come-from-behind to win the Big 12.

The top-10 ranked golfers in the April 29 Clippd rankings earned First Team All-Big 12, while golfers ranked 11-20 earned Second Team All-Big 12. Individual Big 12 Co-Champions Mila Jurine (UCF) and Nichakorn Pinprayroon (Iowa State) earned spots on the first team. Charlotte Back (Arizona), Malena Castro (Baylor), Pimpisa Sisutham (UCF), Moa Svedenskiöldg (Houston), Pammy Chookaew (Iowa State) and Camille Min-Gaultier (TCU) joined Jurine and Pinprayroon, plus superlative award winners Rhodes and Silchenko on the First Team.
