All-Big 12 Men's Golf Honors

May 4, 2005

DALLAS -- Sophomore Anthony Kim (Oklahoma) was named 2005 Big 12 Men's Golf Player of the Year, freshman Pablo Martin (Oklahoma State) was named Newcomer of the Year and Mike Holder (Oklahoma State) was named Coach of the Year, the conference office announced Wednesday.

The All-Big 12 honors are selected by the league's head coaches.

Kim has won two straight tournaments, including the Big 12 Championship, and has seven Top 20 finishes this season. He captured Big 12 Championship medalist honors by six strokes and has a 71.81 stroke average through 27 rounds. His low round of the year is a 66 at the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate. Kim was last year's Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and is the second Sooner to win Big 12 Player of the Year (Hunter Haas, 1998).

Martin leads the Big 12 in stroke average with a 71.20 through 30 rounds. He has two victories this season and six other Top 20 finishes, including a tie for 11th at the Big 12 Championship. Martin's low round is a 66 at the 16th Ping/Golfweek Preview. Martin is the second Cowboy to be named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year along with Charles Howell in 1998.

Holder was named Big 12 Coach of the Year for the third time. He led OSU to its fourth Big 12 title and 49th conference title overall in 2005. Holder has claimed 25 league crowns in his 31 years as head coach at his alma mater. His Cowboys are currently the country's top-ranked team. Holder also garnered Big 12 Coach of the Year honors in 1998 and shared the award with Mark Simpson (Colorado) in 2000.

The All-Big 12 Men's Golf Team was also announced. Kim and Alex Noren (Oklahoma State) were the lone repeat honorees from 2004. Matthew Rosenfeld (Texas) was a member of the 2003 team.
