Ashley Paris (Oklahoma) was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Ashleigh Fontenette (Texas) was selected Freshman of the Week by a media voting panel for games of Jan. 12-18. Paris was honored for the second time this season while Fontenette picked up her first award.

Ashley Paris averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds while adding six blocks, three assists and two steals in the Sooners’ victories at home last week against No. 17/14 Kansas State and No. 8/6 Texas A&M. The senior forward shot 61.5 percent from the field, hitting eight of 13 shots in each game. Against the nation’s top scoring defense, Paris supplied 18 points and 10 rebounds versus Kansas State. She also had a career-high five blocks to go with her pair of assists and steals. Paris then registered her 12th double-double of the season with a 16-point, 10-rebound performance against the Aggies, the NCAA’s No. 3 scoring defense.

Ashleigh Fontenette, Texas, G, Pflugerville, Texas
Ashleigh Fontenette posted a career-high 21 points in Texas’ victory over Nebraska on Jan. 14, including 12 points during a four-minute stretch in the second half. With the effort, Fontenette became the first Longhorn freshman to score 20+ points in a game since 2004 when current WNBA standout Tiffany Jackson connected for 22 points. She is third Longhorn this season to eclipse the 20+ point mark. The game was Fontenette’s third double-digit scoring effort as she set career highs in points (21), field goals (nine) and minutes (22). The Pflugerville, Texas, native finished the week with 23 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals.
