Not all NCAA Tournament regional semifinals are created equal. Some Sweet 16s are sweeter than others.

That is definitely the case for Kansas. The 11th-seeded Jayhawks pulled their second consecutive upset, overcoming the nation's leading scorer and No. 3 seed Delaware 70-64 Tuesday night in Little Rock, Ark.

Kansas (21-12) advanced to the semifinals of the Des Moines Regional and will face No. 2 seed Tennessee Saturday.

On Feb. 12, KU leading scorer Carolyn Davis was lost for the season with a knee injury. At the time, the Jayhawks were squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble. When the field was selected, the Jayhawks had to sweat until the last section of the bracket was revealed. Kansas was one of the final at-large teams selected by the women's basketball committee.

"We've got a good team, but we have to find ways to win," said Kansas coach Bonnie Henrickson, whose team lost six of its last eight Big 12 Conference games. "We had to prove to the committee that we belong. We got to prove to them that we can win without (Carolyn)."

Senior forward Aishah Sutherland and junior point guard Angel Goodrich have been the key players since Davis was injured. Goodrich, who has overcome two ACL injuries, took over in the second half against the Blue Hens (31-2), who had won the first NCAA game in program history on Sunday.

"I thought she did a great job today with her decision-making and that was the difference in this ballgame," Delaware coach Tina Martin said of the Kansas point guard.

Goodrich scored 27 with six assists for Kansas, which made 17 of its 28 shots in the second half and shot 50 percent for the game. Goodrich and her teammates were able to overcome Delaware's Elena Delle Donne. The nation's leading scorer at 27 per game, she had 34 against the Jayhawks after scoring 39 in the Blue Hens' first-round victory.

Delle Donne 12 straight points to pull the Blue Hens within 59-57 late in the game but then Goodrich took over and scored nine of the Jayhawks' next 11 points to give Kansas a 68-57 advantage.

Kansas used a swarming defense to slow Delle Donne but Sutherland, who scored 12 points and had 11 rebounds, had the main assignment of guarding the Delaware junior. Sutherland admitted after the game that the Jayhawks being one of 16 teams still alive in the women's bracket is surprising.

"When I was in the locker room, I told my teammates to pinch me," Sutherland said.
