The Big 12 men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete at NCAA Regionals Friday, Nov. 13, with the chance to run in the 2015 NCAA Championships in Louisville., Ky., on the line. The conference has two teams on both the men’s and women’s side ranked nationally heading into Friday’s competition.
In the latest USTFCCCA poll, No. 6 Oklahoma State leads the league on the men’s side after winning its eighth-consecutive Big 12 Championship title. The Cowboys are trailed by No. 26 Oklahoma, as well Texas, who is receiving votes.
No. 13 Oklahoma State is the Big 12’s top-ranked women’s squad fresh off its first Big 12 crown. Iowa State is close behind at No. 16, followed by West Virginia who is currently recieving votes.
The Midwest Regional, hosted by Kansas, will feature both the men’s and women’s teams from KU, and four other Big 12 programs: Iowa State, K-State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. The meet will be held at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan,, home of the 2014 Big 12 Championship. The women’s 6k race will begin at noon CT, with the men’s 10k race to follow at 1:00 p.m CT. The OSU men will try to continue their dominance and bring home a staggering 10th regional champion trophy in 11 years.
Baylor, TCU and Texas all travel to College Station, Texas for the South Central Regional. The Texas men enter Friday’s meet ranked No. 2 in the region, behind only Arkansas and just ahead of host school Texas A&M at No. 3. The women’s race will kick off the day at 10 a.m. CT, followed by the men’s event at 11 a.m CT.
Texas Tech heads west to Albuquerque, N.M., for the Mountain Regional (1 p.m. CT start for the women’s 6K and 2:00 p.m. CT start for the men’s 10K) and the West Virginia women will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Princeton, N.J. The WVU women will race at 12:00 p.m. ET in search of their third-consecutive NCAA Championship appearance.
The NCAA Cross Country Championships will be held Saturday, Nov. 21, at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. and will be hosted by the University of Louisville. The top two teams from each regional earn automatic bids to the event, and the top four runners not associated with qualifying teams will advance as individuals. Additional teams and individuals are chosen through an at-large selection process.
