Baylor's Kim Mulkey was selected Coach of the Year and sophomore forward Nina Davis was named Player of the Year in highlighting the 2014-15 Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Conference Women's Basketball Awards.
Gabbi Ortiz (Oklahoma) was chosen Freshman of the Year while her teammate Peyton Little (Oklahoma) was honored as Newcomer of the Year. Chelsea Prince (TCU) earned Defensive Player of the Year and Khadijiah Cave (Baylor) received the Sixth Man Award.
The All-Big 12 honors are chosen by head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.
Mulkey led Baylor to its fifth-consecutive and sixth overall Big 12 regular season title. The Lady Bears finished with a 16-2 conference mark and are 27-3 overall despite having just one senior on their roster. The team's top six scorers are underclassmen with four sophomores leading the charge. Mulkey earned her fifth coach of the year award since 2005 and fourth in the last five seasons.
Davis leads the Big 12 in scoring (20.7 ppg) and double-doubles (10). She is second in field goal percentage (.578) and third in rebounding (8.6 rpg). Her 43 points vs. Mississippi (12/7/14) are a season-high for the league. In conference games, Davis is also the Big 12's leader in points (19.4 ppg), second in field goal percentage (.583) and fourth in rebounds (8.6 rpg). She was named Big 12 Player of the Week on five occasions this season and is a semifinalist for the Naismith Trophy Player of the Year award. Davis' honor marks the fifth consecutive year a Baylor student-athlete has captured player of the year.
Ortiz has started every game at point guard for Oklahoma as a true freshman and helped the team to a second-place finish in the Big 12. She contributes 7.9 points and 3.6 rebounds a game while ranking eighth in Big 12 assists (3.6 apg), ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3) and 10th in 3-pointers made per game (1.4) . In league contests, the rookie averaged 3.4 assists and had a 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio. She picked up two Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors.
Little has started 27 of 29 games in her first year of play for the Sooners after transferring from Texas A&M. She leads her team and is eighth in the Big 12 in scoring with 13.2 points and pulls down 3.4 rebounds a contest. In conference games, the sophomore guard improved her scoring average to 15.1 points to rank sixth. She led the Big 12 in free throw percentage (.860) and was second in three-pointers made per game (2.2) through conference play.
Prince has started every game for the Horned Frogs and leads the Big 12 with 3.2 steals (92 total) and tops TCU with a 5.8 rebounding average. She is second on the team with 21 blocks and the fourth-leading scorer with 10.4 points an outing. The senior forward ranks 14th in the Big 12 in rebounds, 22nd in scoring and 15th in blocks.
Cave comes in off the bench for Baylor to average 10.5 points and 5.1 rebounds in 18 minutes of play. The sophomore center is the team's second-leading scorer and third in rebounding. Her .571 field goal percentage is second behind Nina Davis on the team and third in the Big 12. She ranks 21st in the league in scoring.
