After entering the final round of competition with a seven stroke advantage, the Baylor Bears carded a third round 294 to claim their first Big 12 Women’s Golf Title with a team overall score of 867.
Baylor, whose previous highest finish was second in 2013, held off TCU who jumped three spots on the final day to second with a 15-over 879 on the weekend. Texas Tech came in third at 16 over after carding a final round score of 297.
Iowa State placed just ahead of Oklahoma State and Texas who posted an 884 and an 887, respectively. Oklahoma placed seventh with a final score of thirty over followed by Kansas and Kansas State who scored 906 and 910.
In individual play, Oklahoma’s State’s Kenzie Neisen defeated Baylor’s Laura Lonardi in a two-hole playoff to claim 2015 medalist honors. The two golfers were neck and neck coming down the final three holes, but Neisen’s game-winning five-foot putt was enough to hold off Lonardi.
TCU’s Kortnie Maxoutopoulis placed third after climbing six spots in the final round of the championship. Her third round score of 68 tied the lowest score of the championship and represented the lowest score of the day. Kansas’ Pornvipa Sakdee carded an even 72 to place fourth while her teammate Yupaporn Kawinpakorn tied for fifth with Oklahoma’s Hannah Wood, Baylor’s Dylan Kim and Texas Tech’s Stephanie Bertelsen.
The top 10 finishers, including ties, are named to the All-Tournament squad.
Selections for the NCAA Regionals will be announced Monday, April 27 from 6-7 p.m. CT on the Golf Channel.
