Five Big 12 Squads Advance To NCAA Men’s Golf Championship Final Site

Oklahoma State and BYU won NCAA men’s golf regionals, leading a set of five Big 12 programs that finished in the top five to advance to the NCAA Championship finals site in Carlsbad, California. It marks the second consecutive year that the Big 12 has comprised five of the 30 teams at the finals site.

The Cowboys used their automatic bid into the field to tie for the top spot at the Urbana (Illinois) Regional, finishing at -15 with host school Illinois. It marked the eighth regional victory for the OSU program in 11 years, as they advanced to the finals site for the 76th time in the 78-season history of the program. The individual medalist  at the Big 12 Championship, Preston Stout, led the Pokes with a final-round 66 to tie for eighth at -4. Gaven Lane lifted the Cowboys with an eagle on the 50th hole of the 54-hole event, at the 575-yard par-5 15th at Atkins Golf Club.

BYU captured the weather-impacted Reno (Nevada) Regional, as the Cougars’ 15-under score was four strokes clear of the remainder of the field to advance to the finals for the third time in four years. Cole Ponich led the quintet of Cougars with a -7 final score to finish second in the regional.

Calum Scott navigated the Urbana Regional at 6-under to finish fifth, lifting his Texas Tech squad to its fifth consecutive berth to the finals site. The Red Raiders finished the three-round regional at -1 and captured the last advancing spot, fifth place, by eight strokes.

Arizona State used a second-round score of -14 to cruise to a second-place finish at the Bremerton (Washington) Regional, as all five Sun Devils in the lineup finished under-par and no worse than 16th in the event. Connor Williams’ -7 score led the event for ASU, capturing fifth place. ASU’s -25 score led the program to the finals site for the 59th time.

Colorado earned its second berth in the field of 30 in the past three years with a third-place finish at -4 in the Bremerton Regional. CU’s Hunter Swanson led the group with a seventh-place finish at -5.

Utah’s Braxton Watts was the medalist in Bremerton, navigating three loops around Gold Mountain Golf Club in 204 strokes (-12). As the top-finishing individual not on an advancing team, he earns an individual berth to the Omni La Costa Resort for the NCAA Championship, where team and individual titles will be decided May 23-28
