ISU’s Joens, KU’s Chatzileonti Earn Week 2 WBB Awards

Iowa State’s Ashley Joens and Kansas’ Ioanna Chatzileonti picked up accolades from the Big 12 for their performances in Week 2. The honorees are selected by a five-person media panel.

Joens collected Big 12 Player of the Week after averaging 32.5 points and 8.0 rebounds, while shooting 56.8 percent from the floor. She went 10-of-15 (66.7%) from the field at TCU for 33 points and grabbed her 20th career double-double with 11 rebounds. Joens continued that momentum against No. 1 South Carolina, scoring 32 points and grabbing five rebounds, going 11-of-22 (50%) from the field.

Chatzileonti averaged 10.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in two games last week to earn Freshman of the Week. She nabbed her first career double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds in the victory against Oral Roberts. Chatzileonti narrowly missed a double-double at Ole Miss with nine points and 10 rebounds. Her 24 rebounds were second in the Big 12 for the week.

This is Joens’ first weekly award of the season and the seventh of her career, while Chatzileonti is Freshman of the Week for a second-consecutive week.
