The Big 12 has released its October Golfer of the Month awards. Baylor’s Gurleen Kaur secured Big 12 Women’s Golfer of the Month for the second time in her career, while Oklahoma’s Chris Gotterup was named Big 12 Men’s Golfer of the Month for the first time.

Kaur finished the fall strong with a victory at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, the fourth win of her career. The 2021 All-Big 12 team member fired three-under-par rounds highlighted by a four-under 68 in the final round. She birdied three of her final four holes to take home the individual tournament title. Baylor’s score of 841 was the fifth-lowest tournament score in program history and earned the Bears the team title by 30 shots. The three-time All-American’s final-round 71 was the second-best score in the field for the round. She began the month with a second straight top-five finish at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup in a field featuring five other top-25 teams at the difficult Alotian Golf Club. The senior had a one-under 71, the third-lowest round of the day, and one of just seven scores in red figures in the final round. She dominated the par-5s playing them in eight-under for the week.

Gotterup finished as the individual champion of the East Lake Cup, playing a clean round with an eagle and two birdies to finish at 4-under and claim co-medalist honors after sinking an 8-foot putt. The Little Silver, New Jersey native helped top-ranked Oklahoma to a team title, defeating Oklahoma State in the championship match to capture the East Lake Cup. Gotterup won his match 4&3 to deliver victory for the Sooners. The Rutgers transfer finished tied for third with his teammate Logan McAllister at the Colonial Collegiate Invitational to open the month. The redshirt senior led Oklahoma in scoring on par-4s and par-5s, tallying a 7-under mark on such holes, pushing him into the 11^th top-five placement of his career and helped OU finish second as a team. The nation’s No. 1 ranked golfer by Golfweek also went 4-1 at Big 12 Match Play while helping the Sooners finish in third place after a 5-1 win over Oklahoma State. Gotterup led the team at +15 in hole differential during match play. The 2019-20 Big Ten Player of the Year was also recently named to the final fall watch list for the Haskins Award, which honors the player of the year in college men’s golf.
