Denver’s Lynnzee Brown is Big 12 Gymnast of the Week for the third straight week, Oklahoma’s Kerrie Thomas is event specialist for the third time in the last four weeks, while Newcomer of the Week was shared between Denver’s Jessica Hutchinson and Iowa State’s Addy De Jesus.
Brown took at least a share of all five individual titles including the all-around while on the road at No. 12 BYU. Her all-around 39.775 is the highest road score in DU program history and tied the program’s second-highest all-around score overall. She was near perfect on the floor for a third straight week, scoring 9.975, to win that event title outright. Brown added a career high of 9.950 on the beam from the leadoff position. The Kansas City senior also won the vault title with a 9.90 and shared the top of the podium for bars at 9.950.
The Sooners’ Thomas tied a career high on beam with a 9.95. After a leadoff fall, OU needed five straight strong routines, and Thomas topped them all for an event title. She also added one of two scores of 9.9-plus on bars, taking second overall in the meet.
Denver’s Hutchinson is Newcomer for a second straight week after a strong showing on the road at BYU. She had a career high on bars of 9.950, which also won her the event title for the first time in her career. Hutchinson also landed a career high on beam at 9.850, which contributed to DU’s team score of 49.575, the third highest in program history.
The Cyclones’ Addy De Jesus shared the Newcomer honor with Hutchinson, after a career night against No. 1 Oklahoma in which she matched ISU’s school record in the all-around with a career-best score of 39.600. Leading the way was a 9.925 on beam, making her the fourth ISU gymnast in history to score 9.9 or higher on all four events in a season.
