Texas won all four races to collect the 2021 Big 12 Rowing Championship and an NCAA automatic qualifying bid. This is the Longhorns’ sixth consecutive Conference title and 10
th in the last 12 years the event was held.
UT totaled 167 points in the Championship’s first appearance at Austin’s Walter E. Long Lake. Alabama took the silver medal in three races and one bronze to place second with 141 points. Tennessee finished second in the Second Eight and picked up bronze medals in the others to place third with 133 points. The final standings rounded out with 4. Oklahoma (91 points), 5. Kansas State (87 points), 6. Kansas (77 points) and 7. West Virginia (51 points).
The 1V8 opened the event with Texas racing to a time of 6:43.279. The Longhorns’ 2V8 crew won its event in 6:52.303, which topped the second place time in the 1V8 race. UT’s 1V4 won gold with a 7:51.683 as did the 2V8 boat that crossed the finish line in 7:34.774.
Big 12 squads will learn their NCAA fate on Tuesday, May 18. The NCAA Championship will be held May 28-30 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida.
