Five Longhorns Set Records as the 2022 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship Continues

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Texas won all but one event to stay on top of both the men’s and women’s team rankings after the third day of the 2022 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown.

Five Longhorns etched their names into the history books with two all-time Big 12 records in the women’s 100 butterfly and breast and three Big 12 Championship records set in the women’s 3-meter diving, the men’s 400 IM and 100 breaststroke. TCU won the men’s 200 free relay to claim its second event win of the Championship after the Texas men were disqualified due to an early take-off. This marked the first time since 2004 a team other than UT has won the men’s 200 free relay.

Texas remains on top in both the men’s (744) and women’s (721) team standings heading into the final day of competition. TCU sits second in the men’s standings with 569 points followed closely by West Virginia (509). Kansas is in second place on the women’s side (431.5), with TCU at third (391) and West Virginia (318.5) and Iowa State (317) following behind.

Olivia Bray repeated in the 100 butterfly and set an all-time Big 12 record of 51.03. Freshman Tim Connery captured the men’s event with a time of 45.61 and became the third consecutive Longhorn to win the 100 butterfly on the men’s side.

2020 Olympian Anna Elendt set an all-time Big 12 record in the women’s 100 breaststroke with her time of 57.35, while Caspar Corbeau three-peated in the men’s finishing at 50.96.

In the men’s 400 IM Carson Foster set a Conference Championship record time of 3:37.72, breaking his mark from 2021 by three seconds. Kelly Pash became the seventh consecutive UT swimmer to win the women’s 400 IM with her time of 4:07.65.

Hailey Hernandez set a Big 12 Championship record in the 3-meter dive (418.50), making the 2020 Olympian the first Big 12 female diver to win the 1 and 3-meter since Alison Gibson (Texas) in 2018. Andrew Harness won the men’s 3-meter with a career-best (453.85) for the Longhorns and marked the 10th consecutive UT diver to win the men’s 3-meter.

In the women’s 200 free Kyla Leibel finished first for the second consecutive year, (1:46.28) continuing Texas’ streak that dates back to 2014. Drew Kibler won the men’s 200 free at 1:32.64, his third time capturing the event and continuing excellence in an event the Longhorn men have won every year except for 1999.

Julia Cook secured the 100 backstroke for the second consecutive year on the women’s side with her time of 51.83 and Cameron Auchinachie took home the men’s title with his time of 45.32.

Texas won the women’s 200 free relay (Grace Cooper, Emma Sticklen, Kelly Pash, Bridget Semenuk) with a time of 1:28.06. In the men’s relay, TCU won its first event of the day with a time of 1:18.94 (Jadon Wuilliez, Raphael Paiva Da, Jake Litchfield, Noah Cumby Jr.). Texas originally had set a meet record before being disqualified due to an early take-off.

The top four individuals in each event are awarded All-Big 12 first team designation. The fifth-eighth place finishers are All-Big 12 second team. Full results can be viewed here.
