Oklahoma State and Texas Tech Lead Standings After Day One of Indoor Championship

2022 Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championship - Day One Results

AMES, Iowa – Two freshmen set records and eleven champions were crowned on Friday during the 2022 Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championship as the Oklahoma State women and Texas Tech men lead the standings after the first day of competition.

Through day one, the Cowgirls pace the women’s field with 50 points followed by Texas Tech (41), Texas (28), Oklahoma (27) and Kansas State (24) to round out the top-five. The Red Raiders stand atop the men’s field with 41 points with Texas close behind at 39 points and Oklahoma (27), Kansas (26) and Iowa State (23) closing out the top-five. Six women’s events and five men’s events were scored during day one of the championship.

Texas sophomore Kristine Blazevica won her second consecutive indoor pentathlon title, finishing with 4,308 points. Blazevica took first place in the long jump (6.10 meters) and the 800 meters (2:18.14) while also tying for first in the high jump (1.72 meters) and placing third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.54) and the shot put (12.47 meters) to win the medal.

Texas Tech senior Ruth Usoro also went back-to-back in indoor titles, winning the long jump with a leap of 6.59 meters. On the men’s side, Oklahoma senior Rayvon Allen took the crown with a jump of 7.87 meters.

The Red Raiders also swept the weight throw events with Seasons Usual repeating as champion for the third year in the women’s competition with a throw of 21.55 meters. Senior Gabriel Oladipo won the men’s weight throw with a mark of 21.77 meters.

Another three-time winner on Friday was Iowa State senior Cailie Logue, who took the title in the women’s 5,000-meters with a time of 16:10.94, approximately 17 seconds faster than her 2021 mark. On the men’s side, Texas freshman Yaseen Abdalla picked up his first Big 12 indoor championship win along with the school, meet and facility record in the 5,000-meters with a time of 13:33.26.

Also setting a school, meet and facility record in the women’s pole vault, Oklahoma freshman Olivia Lueking became a first-time winner, leaping for a mark of 4.42 meters. Kansas junior Zach Bradford grabbed the men’s crown with a vault of 5.62 meters.

Oklahoma State swept the distance medley races for both the men and women as Taylor Roe, Nicollette Dixon, Michaela Travers and Kelsey Ramirez picked up the win in the women’s distance medley with a time of 11:13.41. The Cowboys repeated as distance medley champions, as Isaiah Priddey, Justin Smith, Alex Stitt and Alex Maier posted a time of 9:37.90 to win the men’s race.  

Championship Saturday begins at 11 a.m. CT with the men’s heptathlon. Field events will begin at 12 p.m. with the women’s high jump and running events will kick-off at 1:30 p.m. with the women’s 60-meter hurdles.
