BURLESON, Texas — Top-seeded Oklahoma State notched its eighth Big 12 Equestrian Championship title, its second-straight, after an 11-9 win against TCU.
Baylor took a 12-6 win over Fresno State in consolation to secure a third-place finish in the championship.
The Cowgirls swept the meet awards as Sydnie Ziegler (Fences), Katie Pelzel (Flat), Claire McDowall (Horsemanship) and Molly Mitchell (Reining) received Most Outstanding Performer honors in their respective events.
The Big 12 individual awards and All-Big 12 Teams were announced at the end of the championship. TCU’s Isabella Baxter was named the Fences Rider of the Year while her teammate Jessica McAllister received the Horsemanship Rider of the Year honor. Oklahoma State’s Hope King garnered the Flat Rider of the Year merit while Baylor’s Andie Pratt earned the Reining Rider of the Year award.
Baxter was joined by Baylor’s Caroline Fuller, TCU’s Raegan Rast and OSU’s Sidnie Ziegler on the Fences All-Big 12 squad. Fuller was also named to the Flat All-Big 12 team along with King, Fresno State’s Cecily Hayes and TCU’s Sydney Berube. McAllister, Baylor’s Marley Mainwairing, Oklahoma State’s JoJo Roberson and TCU’s Mattie Dukes were named to the Horsemanship squad. The Reining conference team was made up of Pratt, Fresno State’s Bailey Alexander, Baylor’s Shelby Clausen and OSU’s Molly Mitchell.
Big 12 Championship: No. 1 Oklahoma State 11, No. 2 TCU 9
OSU started the day with a 3-2 win in Fences. Ziegler scored a 171-161 win over Emy Lucibello on Teddy. Emma Pacyna followed with a 160-133 win against Ashleigh Scully on Copa. Rast gave the Horned Frogs their first point, edging out Riley Hogan 164-163 on Calvi. Abigail Brayman added to OSU’s lead with a 173-157 victory over Baxter on Fats. Berube kept TCU within one with a 166-159 win over King on Petey.
In Reining, TCU took a 3-2 win to tie things up. Shea Graham defeated Roberson 142.5-140 on Cowboy to kick things off for the Frogs. Hannah Lovrien added a point for the Cowgirls with a 144.5-140.5 win over Bella Andrews on Slash. Molly Mitchell scored another one for OSU with a 146.5-144 victory against Dukes on Snoop Dog. Giorgia Medows put TCU within one, picking up a 137.5-0 win over Quincee Clark on Cherry. McAllister provided the Frogs with another point with a 141.5-140 win over Kelly Harper.
Oklahoma State took the Flat 3-2 as the meet remained close. Pelzel got a a 180-173.5 win over Berube on Cowboy and King followed with a 177.5-165.5 win against Wynne Weatherly on Puzzle. Jacey Albaugh tallied a point for TCU with a 152-149.5 win over Ziegler on Mac. Grace Reynolds gave OSU the advantage with a 158-154 win against Sydnie Young on Woody. Scully gave TCU a second point in the Flat with a 1-0 win over Brayman.
The meet came down to the Horsemanship event, where Oklahoma State pulled ahead with a 3-2 win. Medows kept TCU in the fray with a 153.5-148 win over Maddie Fussell on Rio but the Cowgirls picked up the next three points. Caroline Nielsen scored a 150.5-147.5 win on Tony against McAllister. Roberson followed with a 152.5-149.5 win over Graham on Scotty. McDowall took a 153-151 against Dukes on Sweetie. Payton Boutelle added another point for TCU with a 152-145 win over Natalie Vargo on Vegas.
Big 12 Consolation Round: No. 4 Baylor 12, No. 3 Fresno State 6
The Bears opened the day with a 4-1 win in fences with points scored by Caroline Fuller, Madison Mitchell, Savannah Hemby and Emma Fletcher. Ana Bertozzi scored the Bulldog’s only point of the event with a 175-164 win over Madeline Vorhies while riding Oakley. Fuller took a 165-149 victory against Cecily Hayes on Van and Mitchell posted a 156-152 win over Olivia Ferro on Elle. Hemby grabbed a score of 161-137 against Elle Martin on Phia and Fletcher closed it out with a 170-147 win against Grace Mathis on Bentley.
Baylor added to its lead with a 3-1 win in Horsemanship. Fresno State posted its only point of the event with a 152.5-0 victory by Emily Maul over Ellen Schrotenboer while riding Chili. Isabella Rosa grabbed the Bears’ first Western point with a 157-142.5 win against Alex Krebs on George. Marley Mainwaring followed with a close 150-149.5 win against Alexis Steele on Jake.
BU’s Nadalee Vazquez and FSU’s Hannah Buijs tied at 149-149 while riding Hogan. Elsie Naruszewicz tallied the final Horsemanship point with a 144.5-142.5 win on Cupid against Kameron Thorn.
In the Flat, Baylor continued to add to its advantage with a 3-2 score. Dominika Silvestri picked up the first point with a 156.5-137 win over Taylor Holstead on Wiz. Sara Tuck countered for Fresno State with a 165-160.5 victory against Madison Mitchell on Favorite. Fletcher tallied a 174-146.5 win over Martin on Lina and Vorhies followed with a 170.5-165.5 victory against Bertozzi. Hayes added the final Jumping Seat point with a 173-170 win over Fuller on Lui.
The two squads closed out the day with a 2-2 tie in Reining. Julianne Kelley opened the event with a 145-0 win for the Bulldogs on Gunner against Jenna Meimerstorf. Baylor’s Shelby Clausen and Fresno State’s Lexee Padrick tied at 143-143 on Alfie.
Bailey Alexander scored point number two for FSU with a 145.5-144.5 victory over Daisy Kaufman on Roxie. Andie Pratt responded for the Bears with a 141-140 win on Britney against Hannah Hieber and Madaline Callaway evened it out with a 143.5-129.5 win over Addison Welman on St. Nic.
