SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech advanced to match-play at the 2022 NCAA DI Men’s Golf Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club. OSU’s Eugenio Chacarra and UT’s Parker Coody finished tied for second in the player leaderboards after a four-way tie resulted in a playoff among the top four finishers.
The Sooners tied for first after shooting a 14-over-par 1134 during the four rounds and are into match-play for a national-best sixth straight season. OU will be paired with Arizona State in an NCAA Quarterfinal on Tuesday morning and will try to capture its third national championship in program history.
Texas finished at 17-over-par 1137 to place fourth in the team standings and it marks an NCAA-best seventh time in the last 10 opportunities that UT has advanced to match-play. The Longhorns are matched up against Oklahoma State which scored a 21-over-par 1141. UT will be looking for its fourth title in school history and first since 2012, while the Cowboys aim for the program’s 12th and first since 2018.
The Red Raiders carded a 33-over-par 1153 to claim the final spot and are seeded against Vanderbilt in the quarterfinals. It’s the third time Texas Tech has advanced to the quarterfinals in program history, all coming under head coach Greg Sands (2010, 2018, 2022).
Chacarra and Coody forced a four-way playoff for the individual title after both shot an even-par 280 in stroke play, narrowly missing an individual national championship.
The Big 12 makes up half of the eight teams remaining with no other league having multiple teams in the quarterfinals.
In team match-play competition, a total of five points will be available with one point being awarded for each individual match. Winning teams will advance to the semifinals and subsequently, the finals. The first team to win three points within the team match will advance, or in the case of the final match, be declared the national champion.
Both quarterfinals and semifinals will be held on Tuesday, May 31 while the NCAA Championship match is scheduled for Wednesday, June 1.
