Oklahoma State’s Maddison Hinson-Tolchard was named the 2021-22 Big 12 Women’s Golf Player of the Year while TCU’s Caitlyn Macnab was bestowed Freshman of the Year and Texas’ Ryan Murphy won his fourth Coach of the Year title. The awards were selected by the Conference’s head coaches.
Hinson-Tolchard won two tournaments this year and finished inside the top-20 of the leaderboard 10 times and inside the top-25 at 12 events. The sophomore appeared in 13 tournaments for the Cowgirls and in her 37 rounds of work she carded a 71.65 average score. The 2022 Stillwater NCAA Regional Individual Champion was named a second-team All-American for the season and advanced to the final round of stroke play at the NCAA Championships where she finished tied for 31st. She finished the year with nine rounds in the 60s, including a season-low 66 in the second round of the Mountain View Collegiate in March. Hinson-Tolchard is the second-consecutive Cowgirl to be voted Big 12 Player of the Year (Maja Stark, 2021).
Macnab was one of four freshmen named a Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Honorable Mention All-American this season. The native of Johannesburg, South Africa finished her first season at TCU with several school records, including a 71.5 stroke average, 22 rounds of par or better, 130 birdies and seven eagles. Her score of 13-under 203 at the Jim West Challenge was a school record and gave her a runner-up finish. It was one of six top-10 finishes for Macnab, including five finishes in the top five. Macnab was also listed as a First-Team Academic All-Big 12 member and is the first Horned Frog to be awarded Freshman of the Year.
Murphy coached the Longhorns to 13th place at the NCAA Championship. It was the fifth-straight top-15 finish at the NCAA Championship and the sixth-straight year UT has earned a bid to the Championship, all under Murphy. Texas finished in the top five as a team a total of eight times in 2021-22. Murphy coached Texas to victory at the 2022 Big 12 Championship, its fourth victory out of its last five appearances at the Conference Championship.
The All-Big 12 Women’s Golf Team was formulated by an average of the season’s final rankings of Golfstat and Golfweek following the NCAA Championship. The 10 golfers with the highest average of rankings were selected to the team along with Oklahoma State’s Lianna Bailey, the medalist of the 2022 Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship. Baylor led with three selections, while Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas each had two represented on the team.
