Texas’ Trinity Byars (offensive) joins Texas Tech’s Macy Blackburn (defensive), Madison White (goalkeeper) and Sam Courtwright (freshman) as Big 12 soccer’s weekly award honorees. It is the first selection for Blackburn, while the trio of Byars, White and Courtwright earned their second honor this season.

Byars concluded Week 7 play with four points and two goals scored. After the Longhorns’ 0-0 draw with West Virginia, the Health Promotion & Behavioral Science major registered her sixth career brace as Texas defeated Kansas 2-0 on Sunday. Her two goals placed her second in the Conference with 13 total goals this season, only sitting one goal back from teammate Lexi Missimo.

Blackburn helped Texas Tech secure its second and third straight shutouts and extended its league play record to a perfect 5-0 start. The Red Raiders held Oklahoma and Cincinnati to a combined 12 shots during the week. Additionally, the redshirt sophomore scored one goal and assisted on the other in the 2-0 win over the Sooners before registering an assist during Sunday’s 3-0 win against Cincinnati. Blackburn owns the nation’s second-best 11 assists and is the only defender that ranks within the top 10 of the category.

Leading the Big 12 and currently tied for first in the country with eight clean sheets during the 2023 campaign, White recorded five saves that held OU and UC scoreless. Before facing TTU, the Sooners had scored at least one goal in the last five contests while UC was on a two-game scoring streak. Only allowing five goals this season, she possesses a .385 goals-against average.

Courtwright logged 143 minutes of action during TTU’s two wins last week. She tallied a combined six shots on goal in the two contests while posting a goal and an assist in the win against Cincinnati. The Dallas native has played a huge role in the Red Raider offense that has an undefeated 11-0-2 record as she owns the team’s second-most six assists. The freshman has scored three goals this season.
