Arizona State’s Kierra Blundell (offensive), Colorado’s Brooke Goerish (freshman) and Oklahoma State’s Emmy Hedden (defensive) and Avery Bass (goalkeeper) collected Week 6’s honors as Conference play began.
Blundell tallied her first goals and registered her first brace in two seasons as she helped the Sun Devils open Conference play with a 3-1 victory over Utah. The junior played 81 minutes in the match. Four different ASU players have recorded a brace this season. This is the 2024 Big 12 Freshman of the Year’s second overall league honor, and her first time being honored as the Conference’s best weekly offensive player.
Goerish collected her fourth weekly honor in the last three weeks after recording a shutout in her Big 12 debut. The freshman prevented Iowa State from converting three shots on goal, including tipping a shot off the crossbar with five minutes left in the match. Colorado’s win extended its winning streak to four.
Hedden played every minute of OSU’s league-opening 3-1 win over then-No. 20 TCU, capturing the team’s first win over a ranked team since the 2024 season opener. The Cowgirls’ backline held the Horned Frogs to one goal in 25 shots. Hedden also knocked in the final goal for OSU in the 67th minute to mark her first goal of the season. This is the sophomore’s second career league honor after earning a freshman award last season.
Bass’ Big 12 debut saw her grab seven saves, which marked a season-high for the 5th-year senior and were the most recorded by a Big 12 goalie last week. She held TCU to one goal, a team that had averaged 1.8 goals a game before facing OSU. Bass helped the Cowgirls record their first Big 12 win since Oct. 2024 and their first win against a ranked team in three seasons. The Central Oklahoma transfer is the first OSU goalkeeper to capture a Big 12 weekly honor since Oct. 23, 2024.
Conference play continues this week as Big 12 teams will compete against two league opponents.
