Texas Sweeps Second Consecutive Big 12 S&D Weekly Awards

Texas’ Nate Germonprez (swimmer), Nick Harris (diver) and Will Modglin (newcomer) garnered the men’s Big 12 Swimming and Diving weekly awards while Grace Cooper (swimmer), Bridget O’Neil (diver) and Berit Berglund (newcomer) completed the awards sweep for the Longhorns on the women’s side. It’s the second straight week Texas has claimed all six awards with Will Modglin and Bridget O’Neil being the only two repeat winners from the previous set.

Germonprez swept the IM events with first-place finishes in both the 100 IM (48.45) and 200 IM (1:46.53) against No. 15 Virginia. The business major also helped the Longhorns to two runner-up finishes in the 400 medley relay and 400 free relay and added an individual runner-up finish in the 100 breast (53.67). It is the freshman’s second Conference award this season.

Cooper earned her first career weekly Conference award as she helped the Longhorns clock the fourth-fastest times in the NCAA in both the 200 medley relay (1:35.63) and 400 medley relay (3:32.60). Both relays finished runner-up while the 200 medley relay set an NCAA-A standard time. The advertising major also added the sixth-fastest time in the NCAA with a NCAA-B standard time in the 50 free (22.18) for another runner-up finish. She finished the weekend with four runner-up finishes (400 free relay, 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 50 free) and a fourth-place finish (100 free) against No. 1 Virginia.

Harris recorded his second-best score of the season on the 1-meter dive with a total of 379.28 points before adding his best score of the season on the 3-meter (416.40). The sophomore won both events. It is his second Conference award this season and sixth of his collegiate career.

O’Neil added another Conference award to her resume as she won her second consecutive award in as many weeks for the first time in her career. The senior swept the 1-meter (333.23) and 3-meter (357.15) dives against No. 1 Virginia. The speech and language pathology major has earned the distinction nine times.

Modglin collected six top-three finishes against No. 15 Virginia, including a win in the 100 back (47.16). The freshman finished runner-up in the 50 free (20.22), 400 medley relay (3:13.70), 200 medley relay (1:35.63) and 400 free relay (2:57.23) while adding a third-place finish in the 200 back (1:46.46). It is his third Conference weekly award this season and second consecutive Big 12 Men’s Newcomer of the Week.

Berglund recorded the fifth-fastest time in the NCAA this season with an NCAA B-standard time of 51.76 in the 100 back “Super Final”. The freshman also aided the Longhorns in a runner-up finish in the 400 medley relay as they secured the fourth-fastest time in the country (3:32.60).
